A-z of solar panel cleaning
We know that in order to produce power, your solar panel needs to be exposed to sunlight right? However, except you live in an environment with a high amount of dust or sand around, solar panel cleaning is generally not necessary. Most often, the occasional rain will be enough to naturally and safely keep your solar panel clean and free from any form of dirt that could lower production.
Anyways, if the need for cleaning arises, there are important things to take into consideration. One very important thing is that any scratch or damage on the glass will lead to a reduction in energy production. It is therefore always advisable as you are when cleaning a car.
Dish soap and warm water applied with a soft sponge or cloth is the safest and easiest cleaning method. Do not forget. This is to avoid damaging the glass at all costs.
It is always advisable to embark on panel cleaning every six months. 15% – 25% efficiency might get lost if not cleaned properly. What this means is that solar panels will now generate 15%-25% less electricity which will be to your disadvantage.
Cleaning your solar panel isn’t so much of a task. It isn’t time-consuming either. When you neglect your solar panel for too long, especially if you reside in a dusty environment, the result is not always healthy for your power generation.
